The pledge of 6-foot-8 Seattle guard Shaqquan Aaron over the weekend to the University of Louisville sent the Cardinals to the No. 2 position on the early Class of 2014 basketball recruiting rankings by 247Sports.com.
Aaron is rated 5-stars and the nation’s No. 15 junior by that site. He joins No. 26 Quentin Snider of Ballard High School in the Cardinals’ class, locking up a formidable backcourt combo nine months before the fall signing period.
U of L is behind only Ohio State, which has three top-100 commitment, and is ahead of the early classes of Syracuse (No. 3 Chris McCullough) and Kentucky (No. 11 Karl Towns). They and Aaron are the nation’s highest-ranked juniors who have made a college commitment, according to 247.
Indiana’s one-man class of Fort Wayne star James Blackmon Jr. (No. 97 by 247) is ranked No. 15.
Only 11 of 247′s top 50 juniors are committed to a college, so there will be countless fluctuations in team rankings between now and the spring of 2014.
